Canberra District Wine is Liquid Geography!

Wine has been made in the Canberra District for 160 years. Today the countryside around the ACT is home to 140 vineyards and more than 30 boutique cellar doors in 3 main areas — in ACT / Hall, in the Murrumbateman/Yass area and in the Bungendore/Lake George area. The range in temperature, vineyard elevations, soil types and the application of the winemaker’s skill enables the successful production of a wide range of varieties including shiraz, riesling, chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, pinot gris and sangiovese. All of these elements combine to provide ‘Liquid Geography’.

After visiting the cellar doors within the ACT , drive along the Barton Highway to visit cellar doors in the Hills of Hall. Continue your journey on to Murrumbateman to sample the wines of the region as well as the many restaurants and cafes serving regional produce. Or you can take a drive out along the Federal Highway to visit the higher and cooler Lake George/Bungendore vineyards and cellar doors, as well the historic villages of Gundaroo, Collector and Bungendore — a great day out in the region.
