Where would you keep the spare key to Parliament House? Well, it is behind the huge locked gates of the Royal Australian Mint—the same place that makes lots and lots of money!

Since 1965, the Royal Australian Mint has made 14 billion coins, many of which have probably, at some time or other, been in your pockets. It is Australia’s national mint and is responsible for the production of all Australian circulating coins. The Mint is currently being refurbished and the observation gallery will therefore be closed until late 2008.

However, you can still visit the Mint, where you will be able to:

  • visit the special exhibition Treasures of the National Coin Collection;
  • view the new theatrette presentation;
  • make a coin on the visitor press; and
  • browse through the coin shop, where there are many unique gifts—most of them made on the premises.

Free entry, free parking, free barbecue facilities- but sorry… no free samples!
