Marketing and Communications Officer Required

The National Capital Attractions Association (NCAA) is the industry association representing tourist attractions within Canberra and the surrounding region. With over 45 organisations as members, the Association’s mission is to promote the National Capital’s attractions; to work collaboratively as the peak body for Canberra attractions; to increase visitation to the attractions and to provide a forum for marketing, information sharing, discussing issues and networking. The Association is active in lobbying for the attractions sector with Government and other bodies, as well as promoting the national attractions through events, promotion, and publications.

The responsibilities of the Marketing and Communications Officer include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing a marketing plan for the National Capital Passport to generate revenue for the NCAA.
  • Co-ordinating NCAA participation in tourism activities such as travel trade shows and ACT Tourism events. This may include attending the events.
  • Assisting in reviewing advertising opportunities, writing copy for advertisements, media releases and websites, including social media.
  • Representing the NCAA at marketing events within the tourism industry of Canberra and the region.
  • Providing marketing administration support to the Executive Committee.

The right candidate will be/have:

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the Canberra and region tourism industry.
  • Experience in the marketing and communications field.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Can do attitude and proactive approach.

Contract details

  • This is a contract opportunity for a period of 12 months, with a maximum fee of $20,000 (GST inclusive).
  • The contractor will report to the NCAA President and will receive guidance from the Executive Committee.
  • It is expected the contractor will work approximately 8 hours per week.

  • some marketing project work

Recent submissions by the NCAA

The last few months of 2010 were busy for the NCAA Executive, with the NCAA making three submissions on three different topics of interest, on behalf of our members.

The first was a letter to Queanbeyan Council, advising our opposition to any rezoning of land at Tralee from industrial to residential, in support of Canberra International Airport.  NCAA submission – Tralee zoning

The second was a response to the Loxton Review of ACT Government Festivals and Events.  NCAA response to Review on ACT Events and Festivals

Finally, we also submitted a response to the Intergovernmental Committee on Parking in the Parliamentary Triangle, Barton and Russell, which is being chaired by the National Capital Authority.  This submission was prepared after a meeting with several of the attractions who are located in these areas.  NCAA Submission – Parking Strategy

NCAA Executive Committee nominations open

If you are a member of the NCAA and are interested in working on the Executive Committee to help promote the National Capital Attractions, we encourage you to nominate for a position on the 2010/2011 Committee.  Nominations are due on Friday 1 October and voting will be held at the AGM on Wed 6 October at noon at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.

 The temperatures are warming up, the flowers are in bloom and spring is certainly in the air.  The weather was kind for the Floriade opening on Saturday and there is an absolute multitude of things going on in our fantastic national attractions throughout spring.

New Look National Gallery set to open in Spring

Get set to witness the biggest transformation of the National Gallery of Australia since its
creation in 1982. This spring, visitors to the Gallery in Canberra will walk though a striking new entrance and be greeted by 11 specially designed Indigenous art galleries, showcasing works from the largest collection of Australian Indigenous art in the world.

A whole program of exhibitions and special events will celebrate the opening season at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra.  Commencing with Robert Dowling: Tasmanian son of Empire in July, it continues with Life, death and magic: 2000 years of Southeast Asian ancestral art in August and concludes with the blockbuster Ballets Russes: the art of costume, featuring costumes designed by artists including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Giorgio de Chirico as well as drawings, stage scenery and photographs.

The Gallery has also recently launched a new brand and revamped their website.  Check it out at www.nga.gov.au

Parliament House – Behind the Scenes
